Two Sessions at CES 2013
MacTech Insight: Taking App Concepts to Reality
CES 2013, Las Vegas
January 10, 2013 3:00 PM – 3:50 PM
LVCC, North Hall N260
In 2010, Talkler was an app idea waiting to happen. Exasperated by miles of driving “email blind” (and resorting to asking passengers to read his emails aloud to him while he was stuck behind the wheel), Jeffrey Korn finally decided to turn this Mother of a Necessity into an invention: He set out to create Talkler — Email for your Ears.
But to turn his app idea into a technical reality and a thriving business, Korn had to get a lot of moving parts working together: Safety, usability, voice recognition, text-to-speech, touch screens, proximity sensors… Branding, hiring, financing, monetization through subscriptions and advertising — he even had to invent a whole new class of advertising for this heads-up/hands-off medium. Along the way, he discovered there were some pretty good reasons no one else had cracked the code for eyes-free email before. And the lessons he learned are valuable for any app entrepreneur aiming to turn an idea into an app success.
This session covers:
- How to tell if your app idea is a winner
- How to avoid business models that’ll kill your app idea
- The 7 app business models (+ 1 most people forget)
- Using partnerships to build it for “free”
- Are you an Entrepreneur or a “Wantrepreneur”?
- How to build an MVP— it’s not what you think
- Why the technology doesn’t matter (and what does)
- 3 types of Testing you can’t afford to ignore
- Secrets of the App Store “walled garden”
MacTech Insight: Engaging People w/ Technology
CES 2013, Las Vegas
January 10, 2013 11:50 AM – 12:30 PM
LVCC, North Hall N260
There’s no content more engaging than custom content written just for you: Email and messaging are exactly that. The average busy professional receives 147 emails a day, some entertaining, some mission-critical, some personal, some painful… It’s no surprise we can’t keep our hands off our mobile devices — in line at Starbucks, in meetings, at home, even behind the wheel.
Talkler is “email for your ears” — the groundbreaking smartphone technology for heads-up, hands-off, reads-aloud-to-you, voice-controlled email. Talkler has built a business around new and innovative ways to interact with your inbox.
Invented for the modern smartphone, Talkler is a content platform that leverages the microphone, the accelerometer, Bluetooth®, the proximity sensor, the speaker, the touch screen, text-to-speech, speech recognition… All to keep us engaged with the steady pulse of our personal content.
Korn will serve as Moderator for this session, featuring Nathan Toups. Toups is an entrepreneur and professional geek with a background in collaborative design. He honed his professional IT skills after college and now owns and operates rojoroboto, llc., a technology consulting firm based in Austin, TX. He has experience with a broad range of organizational practices and trends within the realm of mobile device and cloud integration in the workplace, specifically with iOS and the cloud.
